At least once a week I’m asked about social media, how much, how often, how to — and each person I speak with is going through various desgrees of frazzlement (I just made that up) and overwhelm.
I know that everyone and their dog is saying business owners MUST embrace social media, but after watching how all this works, I’d like to offer a recommendation – my 12 Week Website social media tracking sheet.
yes, sign up for social media accounts and make sure you fill in the Profile with a link back to your website
Someone recently asked me at a small business event, “What are the top 10 web tasks every business owner should know?” and I wanted to share my answers with you.
I’m sure lots of people will have different answers, but these are the ones I think the average business owner really should be able to do without asking for help. If you DO need help, I’d love to share my tips and tricks with you, so I’m launching a new Training Course with the same name as this page — you’ll be able to sign up and get the Early Bird information.
If you’ve never built a website before, you first question is probably, “How does a website work?”
When I’m contacted by new potential website clients, I share diagrams and outlines to explain the process and what goes into building a site. Some people come to me who already have either a sketch, or a list of things they’d like, or a few website links of websites they like – and this is a great start. Others come to me and just “want a website” but don’t really mind what it looks like.
When I think about how to launch a website, I think about the diverse range of clients I have – some of the men include: a 75 year old author, a 23 year old fashion guy, a business professional, an opera singer, a restaurant chef & its owner, a cafe owner, a maths teacher, a cleaning company owner, a French travel site owner, a corporate printing company department head, etc.
Customer’s often come to me here at BizMarketinginaBox.com and ask me a simple question: “Teena, why do you say web statistics can help your business?”.
“Tell me – in a nutshell – how CAN web stats help my business, Teena?”
The simplest explanation is that you can see exactly WHAT someone typed into a search engine before they chose your Description and Link, and landed on one of your web pages (these “search terms” or “keyword phrases” are like gold for the clever business owner).
I always loved the idea of the 3 minute elevator pitch or speech.
“Teena, what’s a 30 second or 3 minute elevator pitch?”
Business owners have an imaginary ride in an imaginary elevator/lift, and have 3 minutes maximum to explain what they do in their business.
I’ve written 3 minute pitches and scripts for clients over the years, and even have a template I email to clients who ask, but more and more I’m thinking it’s time to change my own 3 minute elevator pitch.
